Story Synopsis
Bubbles is a gritty, fast-paced, provocative drama series of contemporary Greek/Cypriot life in London.

The abundant storylines are born from the struggles and desires of its characters and begins as Charlie and Angela break-up after 25 years of marriage. Angela, hungry for life, devours each morsel of experience relishing in its excitement.

Charlie however sinks to extraordinary depths of depression on the way, picking up any passing phobias and obsessions. This is all witnessed and pondered over by their slacker son Luis.

This is family life in contemporary London , whose life blood is its multi-cultural, multi-faceted residence. A colourful epic where the natural meets the surreal and fast talking, wise cracking characters battle to keep some sanity in a crazy world. This is modern inner city family life and the reality of living cheek to jowl in a meze of multi-cultural, multi-faceted ethnic groups.

Inspiration
Its inspiration and setting is the hustling, bustling tumbledown Greek Cypriot community based around the Green Lanes in North London . Spanning miles from Newington Green to Turnpike Lane, the road is choc-a-bloc with cafes, grocers, hairdressers, butchers, kebab shops, clubs and restaurants, all serving a bubbling cosmopolitan population.

Drama Genre
Bubbles is a unique drama genre in terms of scale. Perspective takes us from examining the minutiae of domestic life to wrestle with the universal themes that affect all of us throughout our lives.

The original screenplay was conceived as episodic in order to bring the necessary depth to cover the issues of each storyline. This enables us to move away from the caricatures that are so often used and develop truly real character identities and their multi-faceted nature.

It is a passionate black comic-laced look at the surreal and gritty lives of a people facing contemporary issues inspired and influenced by their epic mythology past.

Greek Cypriot Style - A way of life
This is a community that overflows with passion, who are stifled by their religion, dictated to by their superstitions and their undying allegiance to the Family.

Bubbles teases and celebrates these people with their everyday victories and defeats. Their diverse natures are bonded together by their desire to overcome the trials of integration and a shared longing for their romantic vision of 'home'.

Accordingly the series will embody the zest and spontaneity of these people in all aspects. The language is alternatively fresh and realistic yet also poetical as the characters dictate. The images are vibrant, restless, moody, colourful, uncomfortable away from the characters home ground and sensuous and expansive when back in the fold.

Overall the series is like a Greek meal, a "meze", with flavours and textures tumbling over each other to be enjoyed at will. It's not delicately served up in politely limited portions of emotion because that is not their way. Here we capture the true verve and drama of these people with particular emphasis on the sometimes black humour of their situation.

In Bubbles we celebrate the differences of people, the rough and tumble of nations struggling to live with each other without loosing their identity - their individuality. We don't want homogeny! Let us all be together yet be ourselves.
